Thomas Kuhn, ünlü eseri The Structure of Scientific Revolutions2 ’ta (Bilimsel Devrimlerin Yapısı) sergilediği bilimsel gelişim açıklamasına yöneltilen çeşitli eleştirilerin etkisiyle SSR-sonrası bazı temel kavram ve kavrayışlarını yeniden ele almıştır. Bunlar içinden en önemlisi, birçok düşünsel alanda geniş etkilere sahip olan ünlü paradigma kavramıdır. Kuhn, SSR’de paradigma kavramını birden çok anlamda kullanarak, hem kavramın kendisinde bir muğlaklığa hem de kendi bilimsel etkinlik açıklamasına yönelik yanlış anlamalara yol açmıştır. Bu bakımdan, Kuhn’un SSR-sonrası kariyeri, SSR’den kaynaklanan problemleri çözme girişimi olarak sürer. Bu süreç sonunda Kuhn, paradigma kavramını terk ederek 1980’li yıllardan itibaren bilimsel değişimi bilimsel alandaki dil ve onun sözcük-dağarcığı (leksikon) üzerinden açıklamaya başlar. Bu çalışmada, Kuhn’un ilk başta paradigma kavramını ortaya çıkarış öyküsü ve sonrasında onu nasıl değiştirdiği sergilenecektir.
